International collaboration with University of Melbourne, Australia

In the collaborative Capacity Building research project between the University of Melbourne and the Government of Assam, an attempt has been made to capture community specific data for supporting localized planning processes focusing on the housing and infrastructure sectors. Appropriate policy framework and governance models informed by the relevant scientific principles and best practice knowledge will be devised so that the best steps can be put forward and so that mistakes elsewhere are adequately reflected and rectified. The research effort is expected to support conceptualizing the “Smart Villages” in Assam by empowering the rural community with localized planning and policy support.

Job-oriented Skill based courses

Every year, MSSC organizes job oriented skill based courses under the sponsorship of DTE, Assam. These courses are aimed to enhance technical/ managerial skills of students/ staff from polytechnics, engineering colleges and universities. These courses are organized in collaboration with NIELIT (Guwahati), TapAPP Technology, Susconnect, MTAB Technology Centre Pvt. Ltd. (Chennai), University of Melbourne (Australia) and Dept. of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering (Assam Engineering College).

Stakeholders' Meet

In order to create a Roadmap for MULTI-SKILLING & SUSTAINABILITY for the state and the country; a concerted effort of Academia, Industry, Industry-Associations, Government, Civil Society and Intelligentsia have become the need of the hour. This workshop is convened to engage all stakeholders to enhance employability and sustainability through shared visioning, relevant skill building, Industry-Institute-linkages, entrepreneurial activities, curriculum reforms, startup activities, collaborative projects and networking of stakeholders in a holistic and sustainable framework.

International conferences

COSVARD (Conference on Smart Villages and Rural Development): With over 40% of the world’s population now living in rural areas, there is global interest in research associated with the creation of “Smart Villages” to address the ever growing urban-rural divide. Smart Village research being undertaken in the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning at the University of Melbourne is exploring rural community development, practices and relevant policies with a focus on community-centric planning of affordable housing, infrastructure, sustainable development and growth, community empowerment and other issues related to the creation of Smart Villages.
